Hi,
Over the last years I've been a frequent visitor to a range of sites that have, unfortunately, closed. After an enjoyable experience with a travel blog hosted by the bootsnall team at: http://blogs.bootsnall.com/canberrians I've decided to take the plung and set up a blog. Something to ease my mind when I've feeling frustrated and isolated in these the last months of a PhD experience. Along the way I'd like to take the opportunity to link up recommended articles and/or sites as well.
I've titled the blog - It matters too much - in line with an insight I've gained from my reading and it is related to my experience of mothering. My PhD is currently titled: Maternal ambivalence and contested sites: mothers, children, and families, in contemporary Australia - though I may decide to include as a banner heading - It matters too much. A short answer to the question what is the phd about - I say - maternal subjectivity. And by this I am referring to my attempts to wrestle with mothering, as it is experienced by women in the contemporary context. When I say women, I am referring to myself, but I am also drawing from indepth interviews with sixteen women who became first time mothers in 2004 Australia.
That's it from me for now, but I hope that through the blog I can link up with others who may also be interested in this murky and important topic!
take care and best, Joannie
